Biography Don Spangler’s influence as a composer & songwriter stems from years as a classical musician listening to Leo Brouwer & Bach, to countless hours of performing in rock and R&B bands absorbing the sounds of Led Zeppelin to Stevie Wonder. “Music doesn’t have to be complicated to be good” says Don. “I always try to hear music as though I know nothing about what went into creating it”. This approach, and his love for composing music, is what gives Don the ability to compose and produce many different styles with true authenticity. Don was born in Pittsburgh, PA and as a child moved to Massachusetts with his parents where he attended high school. Don graduated from University of Massachusetts at Lowell and studied guitar under William Buonocore, the guitar director at Boston Conservatory. Don stood out amongst his contemporaries as a top protégé by placing first in the New England Classical Guitar competition, which involved contestants from Conservatories and Music Colleges from all over the New England area. After receiving his Bachelors in Music Performance & Composition, Don moved to New York City and started working in a recording studio owned by the famous musician/pop artist Donald Fagan, as well as the celebrated producer Gary Katz. It was here that Don fine-tuned the engineering and production skills that he knew he needed to increase his chances of composing music for TV and film. While working in the recording studio, Don used his talents to supplement his living by playing guitar as a session musician. In his pursuit to gain more knowledge about music, as well as the business of music, Don went to work for Warner/Chappell music where he learned about publishing and the skill of songwriting. During Don’s stay at Warner/Chappell, he also worked as a session guitarist for the songwriters on the Warner Brother’s roster. During his career Don has shared the stage with many top musicians, some of which played with the likes of Paul Simon, Carlos Santana and even Miles Davis. Don’s music can be heard not only on TV (Cartoon, Network, MTV, VH1, Showtime, G4, Spike TV, Versus & many more), but also in feature films as well as Independent films. Don is currently living in the Los Angeles area and working as a Composer & Producer for TV, Radio and film, as well as any other medium that’s needs an inspired sound. “No idea can truly be great without emotion.” - Ds
